Bedford police have arrested a Wilton man on multiple drug charges after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash and drugs were found in the vehicle, police say.

William Toon, 20, was charged with a felony count of possession of controlled or narcotic drugs as well as possession with intent to distribute, which is also a felony-level charge. He was also charged with a misdemeanor level possession charge, and with possession of drugs in a motor vehicle.

The charges stem from a motor vehicle accident in Bedford on Route 101 on June 11, according to a press release issued by Bedford Chief John Bryfonski.

toon had driven off the road and stuck a pole, according to the release.

Police alleged Toon was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the crash, and arrested him on a charge of DWI and possession of drugs. He was released on $4,000 personal recognizance bail on those charges.

However, while on scene, officers believed Toon’s vehicle contained additional drug paraphernalia or other drug-related items and impounded his vehicle while they applied for a search warrant.

The four additional charges against Toon relate to the result of the search of his vehicle.

The Wilton Police Department arrested Toon on Tuesday at approximately 7 p.m., and transferred him to Bedford for booking.

Toon was held at the Hillsborough County House of Corrections in leiu of $5,000 cash bail pending arraignment at the Merrimack District Court.
