New book, exhibit for Kim Cunningham

The Hancock Town Library will host Kim Cunningham as the November virtual exhibit artist.

Since moving to Southwestern NH in 1979, Cunningham has worked primarily as a graphic artist and illustrator for companies such as Brookstone, Eastern Mountain Sports and Cobblestone Magazine. Now a full-time printmaker and sculptor, she has exhibited throughout New England and her work appears frequently in the Monadnock Region on calendars, posters and logos.

“At the core of my life is the creative environment that my husband, Scott and I have been developing in Hancock for over 30 years. Besides our handmade house and extensive gardens showcasing Scott’s metal sculpture, we feel fortunate to each have a studio building. The landscape and animals of New Hampshire are a constant source of inspiration and inform my art with a strong sense of place. Through my work I hope to share my delight in the natural world and joy in being an artist,” Cunningham said.

All of the block prints in the virtual art exhibit are from Cunningham’s new book – “BLOCK, PAPER, CHISELS” - published by Bauhan Publishing. It’s a colorful collection of more than 70 prints, with background information on Cunningham’s influences and techniques. Haiku poems accompany two of the print series. Original prints are not for sale, however signed copies of ‘BLOCK, PAPER, CHISELS’ will be available for sale by the third week of November at the Toadstool Bookstore and Hancock Market. There will be a Virtual Book Launch through the Toadstool on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m.
