Junior Minstrels starting fall semester

Published: 10/5/2018 11:00:20 AM

For children who love to sing, act, dance, the Junior Minstrels (aka Jr. Mints) may be the perfect after-school activity – a veritable “incubator” for young talent.

Jr. Mints is the brainchild of Jody Hill Simpson, the driving force behind Music on Norway Pond and the Norway Pond Festival Singers. The program is for children ages 7 to 14. Some years the Jr. Mints have performed at Tanglewood, and every year these young people delight audiences at the popular Hancock family Christmas and put on their own musical (this year, it’ll be “Bells Are Ringing” in May, with an opportunity to participate in a concert performance of “Pippin” this winter).

There are no auditions. Membership is first come, first served (after youngsters from the previous year indicate if they are returning). Jr. Mints has about 25 members, as a rule.

Rehearsals begin Oct. 16 and will be held most Tuesdays through the fall and spring.

Tuition is $120 for one child, $100 for siblings, with scholarships available as well.

For more information, call or email Simpson at 525-9303 or jhspals@aol.com.
