Columbus Day Weekend means it’s time again for artists to throw open the doors of their studios to welcome visitors to the 23rd annual Monadnock Open Studios, the region’s oldest art tour. During this year’s tour, 67 artists will welcome visitors to 50 studios from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Monday, Oct. 6 to Oct. 8.

The art tour is self-directed, and is free of charge. Follow the distinctive black and white Art Tour signs to the often tucked-away places where artists work. Studios are located throughout Dublin, Hancock, Harrisville, Jaffrey, Marlborough, Peterborough and Sharon.

Visitors will enjoy the unique experience of being in the rooms where art happens and engaging directly with the painters, printmakers, potters, jewelers, sculptors, fiber artists, photographers, woodworkers, glass artists, and others who make the magic. Most artists offer work for sale, often specially priced for the tour, which also makes it a unique holiday shopping opportunity.

The festivities kick off on Wednesday, Oct. 3, with a preview exhibition, open to the public, at the Sharon Arts Gallery in downtown Peterborough. The exhibit occupies through both galleries, and visitors can enjoy light refreshments while viewing examples of each artist’s work. The gallery exhibit will run from Oct. 3 through Oct. 27. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m..

Tour maps are available in stores, restaurants and galleries throughout the region, and at the Peterborough and Jaffrey Chambers of Commerce. Visitors can also download the tour map, find more information and see images of work by member artists on the Monadnock Art website: www.MonadnockArt.org.
