Norway Pond Singers start up again

Friday, September 07, 2018 12:58PM

If the calendar reads September, it’s time for the Norway Pond Festival Singers,. a popular women’s choral group here in the Monadnock Region, to begin rehearsing.

“During this week’s heat wave, I find myself longing for the cooler air of September and the sound of women's voices singing,” says Jody Simpson, NPFS director and 2017 recipient of the Alfred Nash Patterson Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to choral music in New England.

Starting on September 13th, festival singers rehearsals are held Thursdays from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. in the lower floor of the Hancock Meeting House.

"Rehearsals are fast-paced and a lot of fun,” says Simpson. “We work hard and laugh a lot.”

In the fall, the singers rehearse for the Hancock Family Christmas concert – always jam packed -- to be held on Saturday, Dec. 15.

“There are plenty of spaces for women who love to sing,” Simpson adds. “Being able to follow music on the written page helps but is not required. There are no auditions, although a private meeting with me can make sure you’re singing the right voice part and sitting where you will be happiest.”
