Dance and stomp out your winter blues or just kickback and enjoy the areas most popular bluegrass bands at Zinger’s in Milford on Friday, Jan. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
You may have seen them at the Milford Pumpkin Festival this year, The Double Crossers (formally known as The Dirty Double Crossers) are a roots trio from New England, comprised of Gordon Berry on fiddle/mandolin and vocals, Paul Driscoll on guitar and vocals and Derek Russell Fimbel on banjo/mandolin and vocals. “I think we all have pretty unique influences.” Driscoll said. ” Gordon loves his old time tunes and listens to a ton of his hero, Bruce Molsky. Derek takes after the more contemporary singer songwriters like Gregory Alan Isakov and pop rockers like Vampire Weekend. I like the older fellas like Townes Van Zandt for the writing and Dave Van Ronk for his powerful vocals and playing. All the Vans.”
Getting their start only one year ago, the Double Crossers have established quite a broad list of gigs, playing music that is hard not to tap your foot too, full of emotion and energetic in all directions. Playing farmers markets, bars, weddings, Netflix wrap parties and even a memorable tribute event to local legend Bronson Potter.
“We’ve played pretty regularly for the last year, a few times a week doing any type of gig you can imagine. There’s definitely between a hundred and two under our belt just as a band so far. The most memorable gig was playing a wrap party for the TV show “Castle Rock.” We had the whole cast and crew up and dancing!” Driscoll said.
When asked about their band name he says, “We never really had the idea to form the band. It was always in the back of our minds but always unsaid. It happened over night after playing a show at Hippy Hollow in September of 2018. The name came from a conversation with a friend of ours. They were very into dancing and one of the moves was called the dirty double cross. Plus, it suits us naturally.”
The Cabin Fever event will be the first time the band has played at the new popular venue, Zinger’s, located just off the Oval in Milford. Driscoll says he and the other Double Crossers are excited to try on the new stage and bring their grit musical grit to the locals.
“We are extremely excited to play at Zingers. We consider Milford our hub for one thing and we really love the people over at the venue itself. They are definitely a musician friendly place and we appreciate that,” Driscoll said.
Opening act Green Heron performs music that stretches across the entire folk landscape. Old-time, folk, bluegrass, country, Irish and blues music are all represented as they bring the back porch to the stage. Featuring Betsy Heron on fiddle, banjo and vocals and Scott Heron on guitar, banjo and vocals. The two songwriters weave the contemporary with the traditional and meld high energy performances with emotion and finesse.
Tickets for The Cabin Fever event with The Double Crossers & Green Heron are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. For more information on upcoming shows or to purchase tickets, visit zingers.biz or find Zingers on Facebook.
