The Players fifth and sixth shows of the summer offer something for everyone, with George Bernard Shaw’s “The Man of Destiny” playing Aug. 15 through Aug. 26 and a musical adaptation of “Pippi Longstocking” playing Aug. 18 through Aug. 25.

Opening Aug. 15: Galvanized by victory over the Austrians, the young Napoleon believes he is invincible. At an Italian inn he meets his match, a mysterious young woman, determined to interrupt his rise to power. The resulting sparkling battle of wits, political trickery and sexual intrigue make up Shaw’s 90-minute comedy. With this rarely performed romp, the Players completes productions of all four of Shaw’s self-described “Plays Pleasant,” “Arms and the Man,” “Candida,” “You Never Can Tell” and “The Man of Destiny.” Directed by Gus Kaikkonen, “The Man of Destiny” stars Bridget Beirne, Will Champion, Tom Frey, and Kraig Swartz. Rated PG. Tickets are $42.

Then opening on Aug. 18: Annika and Tommy’s new neighbor “Pippi Longstocking” has crazy red pigtails, a pet monkey named Mr. Nilsson, and a tendency to get caught up in one outrageous adventure after another! Whether she’s fending off burglars, wrestling a circus strongman, or sailing away on a pirate ship, Pippi wins over even the sternest of hearts in this rollicking musical adaptation of Astrid Lindgren’s beloved book! Rated G. Tickets are $9 for children and $10 for adults.
