Actor Keir Dullea is helping promote a screening of “2001: A Space Odyssey” at Jaffrey’s Park Theatre on Friday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m.

Dullea, who starred as astronaut David Bowman in the 1968 Stanley Kubrick-directed film, has recorded a video inviting fans to experience the movie on the theater’s giant screen. Bowman was the mission commander astronaut of Discovery One, as well as the sole survivor of the disaster that occurred aboard the ship.

“2001: A Space Odyssey” is based on a short story, “The Sentinel,” by Arthur C. Clarke. The primary mission in the film revolves around the exploration of space and the investigation of a mysterious monolith discovered on the moon. Plus, a computer, the HAL 9000, has a mind of its own. The screening will feature a newly restored 4K version with enhanced audio, using the original voice tracks, sound effects and score.

Tickets are $10, with a $9 discount for seniors, students, teachers, military and children under 12.

Theater doors open at 6 p.m., with live music from Bob Jordan in the Lounge Bar. The Park Theatre is located at 19 Main Street, Jaffrey. Tickets can be purchased online at theparktheatre.org or by calling 603-532-8888.
