The Peterborough Town Library has recently broken ground for a $8.5 million dollar restoration and renovation of the library. The Capital Campaign Committee is still working diligently to raise the last remaining funds necessary to complete the project.

The Library Trustees have announced a generous challenge match to honor the memory of one of the original project supporters, Jim Grant, who was a lifelong Peterborough resident, nationally well-known educator, firefighter, businessman and ubiquitous community volunteer.

Grant, a long-time library champion, died on July 26, 2016, before he was able to see this dream become a reality. The Library Trustees are offering a 2-to-1 match for any new funds raised up to $5,000. When this goal is reached, the Trustees will contribute another $10,000 to bring the total to $15,000. Combined with other generous donations in Grantโ€™s name, the library will honor Grant by naming the Childrenโ€™s Collection in his memory.

All contributions will be tripled ($25 becomes $75; $100 becomes $300; $250 becomes $750, etc.). Tax-deductible donations can be mailed to The 1833 Society, 1 MacDowell Road, Peterborough, NH 03458. Checks should be made out to the Peterborough Library Campaign, and Jim Grant Match should be entered on the memo line. It is also possible to donate online via the library website. If donating online, check the To Honor Jim Grant box.

The library project is moving forward after nine years of careful planning and community input and support. Harvey Construction of Bedford is overseeing the project along with Ann Beha Architects of Boston. Construction will take approximately 15 months and is scheduled to be complete in August 2021. During the construction period, a temporary library has been opened in the Monadnock Plaza. To learn more about the library project, visit PeterboroughTownLibrary.org/LibraryProject, or call 924-8045.
