To cap off its 25th year in the community, the Children and the Arts Festival committee plans to host special lantern-making events in November and December. The committee has hired international visual artist Gowri Savoor to work with members of the local community to create lanterns for a special parade in downtown Peterborough on Dec. 1.

Savoor will be in the ConVal School District area for a teach-the-teacher workshop on Oct. 15, and also for a week-long residency from Nov. 26 to 30 that will include workshops for local students and community members.

Their efforts will culminate in a lantern parade on Dec. 1 that will coincide with Peterborough’s annual tree lighting event. The parade is also a lead-in to the annual Children and the Arts Festival, which takes place May 18, 2019. The 2019 festival theme is “Let Your Light Shine.”

The committee is currently seeking donors and volunteers for this one-time, magical event of light. Area arts enthusiasts who would like to help finance the event or volunteer their time should contact Children and the Arts at childrenandarts@gmail.com.
