Jaffrey Chamber seeks volunteers for roadside cleanup

Monday, October 01, 2018 4:40PM

The Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the annual Fall Roadside Cleanup on Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14. In conjunction with the Sponsor-a-Highway program, the Roadside Cleanup program encourages residents of Jaffrey to spend a few hours picking up litter in their neighborhoods.

“This is a great way to demonstrate our civic pride and show appreciation for the natural beauty of the community,” said Travis Kumph, Chamber President.

The Sponsor-a-Highway program encourages local businesses and organizations to maintain a section of state highway multiple times throughout the year. Teams organized by the highway section sponsors put roadside trash into blue bags that the State Department of Transportation then picks up.

Kevin Hampsey and Lou Casagrande manage the program and ensure that AAH teams have all the information, provisions, and training they need. “We are very grateful to each of the participating companies and organizations,” stated Hampsey. “Belletetes, Colls Garden Center, DD Bean, Dust to Shine, Given Masonry, Jaffrey-Rindge Rotary Club, Katsura Landscaping, Millipore Sigma, and Monadnock Disposal Service all do a great job of maintaining their sections of highway. We are very thankful for their efforts.”

Blue bags and gloves are available at the Jaffrey Chamber office as well as TD Bank in Jaffrey and the Jaffrey Recycling Center. If you are interested in signing up to help this year, please contact the Jaffrey Chamber office at (603) 532-4549 or info@jaffreychamber.com.
