Roedel Companies, one of New Hampshire’s top hospitality development and management companies based in Wilton, recently donated 500 meal bags to veteran families near its hotels in New Hampshire, New York and Massachusetts. Employees gathered at the Courtyard by Marriott Nashua to assemble the meal bags, each containing enough food to feed a family of four for dinner, the equivalent of 2,000 meals in total.

“One of Roedel’s core values is that we invest resources in the communities we serve, and it is important to us that our values are not just a poster on the wall. Our values are foundational to the way we operate as a company,” said Maureen Shelley, director of employee development at Roedel Companies. “This donation to veterans serves as a small act of gratitude for their services. The genuine love our employees have for the communities they work in is inspiring and we look forward to future opportunities to support these communities.”

Each Roedel property allocates funds in its annual budget to assist in giving back to its local community throughout the year. Additionally, every year at Roedel’s annual company-wide meeting, the group participates in a group community service project. For the 2019 meeting, Roedel selected the Department of Veterans Affairs, which indicated a food donation was of greatest impact.

More than 85 Roedel employees gathered to fill the 500 meal bags, which included the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving meal, including stuffing, potatoes, green beans, carrots, corn, gravy, cranberry sauce, butternut squash, pie, and a $10 gift card for a turkey, along with a hand-written note of gratitude from an employee.

The first 125 meal bags were provided to the Department of Veterans Affairs, which distributed the bags to veterans in New Hampshire. Roedel then collaborated with American Legion organizations to donate the remaining meal bags to veterans in the Nashua, Manchester and Merrimack communities, where Roedel hotels are located, as well as Massachusetts and New York.
