Two local athletes made their ways to Hanover this weekend for the Dartmouth Relays, New Hampshire’s premier indoor track meet.

ConVal’s Lucy Freeman and Clare Veverka ran in the high school meet on Saturday. This was the 48th Annual Dartmouth Relays, a three-day event including races for high schoolers, collegiates, professionals and masters.

Freeman, fresh off a personal record in the 600m run last weekend ran the 1000m at Dartmouth’s Leverone Fieldhouse. She just missed her personal record with a time of 3:26.39 in the five-lap event. She finished 60th overall, 16th amongst New Hampshirites.

Freeman is already provisionally qualified for the division championship with her 1:50.84, a just missed the provisional standard in the 1000m.

Veverka was automatically qualified in the 1000m and 1500m coming into the weekend. She raced the seeded-mile, featuring some of the best middle-distance runners in the Northeast, finishing in 5:15.47. She won the second heat and had the ninth fastest time overall and third fastest from New Hampshire.

Veverka’s mile time converts to a 4:52.13 1500m time (one mile is 1609 meters), improving upon her seasonal best in that event.

The rest of the ConVal squad went to Plymouth State University for its latest NHIAA league meet.

The boys were lead by sprinters Sean Boggis and Finn Wegmueller, who placed third and fifth in the 300m dash, as well as Evan Coyne, who was sixth in the 600m dash. Those three were joined by Kyle Shearer for fourth in the sprint relay.

The girls were lifted by a spread of strong performances, highlighted by two efforts in the 1000m run.

Hailey Doherty was fifth in that event, with Rachel Hurley right behind in sixth. Maddy Garland also scored, placing fifth in the 300m dash. Greta Topping, who was eighth in the 55m hurdles, joined them to place second in the sprint relay.

Next week, the ConVal team will host its “Sledsville 100,” before returning to league competition on Jan. 22.

The Mascenic and Conant teams had their meet canceled this weekend due to snow. They will join ConVal at the University of New Hampshire on Jan. 22.
