PRINCIPAL ON LEAVE:ConVal’s Brian Pickering has been placed on leave as of last Tuesday night’s emergency board meeting. Pickering, who has been ConVal’s principal since 2010, is the reigning New Hampshire Principal of the Year.

ConVal’s principal is out on leave, according to a letter sent to parents and guardians on Wednesday.

The decision to place Principal Brian Pickering on leave was announced to the school board during an emergency meeting. The decision has the full support of the school board, according to a news release sent out by the superintendent’s office.

The release said the principal’s leave has nothing to do with students or the school district.

“At this point in time, we are not sure of the extent of the leave,” the press release said. “We assure you that we will communicate information as it becomes available.”

Pickering has been the principal at ConVal Regional High School since 2010. In 2016, Pickering received the Principal of the Year Award, an honor conferred by the state’s Association of School Principals.

Prior to his tenure at ConVal, Pickering worked at Monadnock Regional High School in Swanzey.

ConVal’s Dean of Faculty Gib West will be stepping in to ensure continuity at the high school. The release says West has worked in the district for more than 30 years and has extensive experience as an administrator.

“We have complete confidence that the staff at ConVal will continue to engage our students in meaningful learning experiences,” the letter to parents and guardians said. “Please know that the administrators at the SAU are fully committed to supporting this mission.”
