The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting local residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Western New Hampshire Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The walk will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Keene State College.

On walk day, participants will honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with Promise Flowers during the poignant Promise Garden Ceremony – a moving display of hope to represent the personal reasons participants join together to fight Alzheimer’s.

“Every 65 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s,” said Jayne Paragona, vice president of development for the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter. “The funds raised from the Walk to End Alzheimer’s have a tremendous impact on our local communities while continuing to move research forward to find the first survivor of Alzheimer’s.”

Participants can join a team or register to walk as an individual at alzwalkMANH.org.

In 2018, the Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter reached over 26,000 people through education programs, conferences and community outreach. The chapter received over 9,800 calls to their 24/7 Helpline sharing reliable information, education, referrals, crisis assistance and emotional support to individuals living with the disease, their families, health care professionals and the public. Currently, in the two-state territory, over $9.8 million has been awarded to 42 Alzheimer’s and dementia research grant recipients at 14 local institutions.

“Without the support of the Western New Hampshire community, the Alzheimer’s Association wouldn’t be able to continue this critical work,” Paragona said. “We look forward to welcoming everyone to the Walk this September.”

The Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter raised over $4.5 million at their 12 Walk to End Alzheimer’s events in both states in 2018.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Since 1989, the Alzheimer’s Association mobilized millions of Americans in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk; now the Alzheimer’s Association is continuing to lead the way with Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
