ANA Proscapes Inc. was hired to mow and maintain town lawns at the Tuesday, April 18, New Ipswich board of selectmen meeting.

The company also did the job last year, and according to Selectboard Chair David Lage was the only one that bid. The work is expected to be billed around $15,000 for the summer, but depends on the exact amount of work done, i.e. how frequently fields need to be mowed, so it could vary.

The estimate is higher than in years past. Last year it was roughly $9,500. This is because it did not include cemetery maintenance, which it does now. In addition to mowing, Proscapes will do the spring cleanup at New Ipswich cemeteries. The job will be more intensive than usual, because according to Jeff Pearl of Proscapes, which is based in Milford, there was not an adequate fall clean up conducted by the previous contractor last year. The price was based on this cleanup plus 12 mowings.

The selectmen approved the bid for field maintenance; the cemetery trustees need to approve theirs separately.

The selectmen made amendments to the new building inspection costs, which will be presented at a public meeting. Because Town Administrator Joanne Meshna was not present for the meeting, they decided not to schedule that public hearing yet.

The goal of inspection fee adjustments was to simplify the billing and revenue process, and hopefully keep the building inspector a fully revenue-based department. The selectmen hope to make fewer fees percentage-based and more fees flat.

“There wasn’t a change at a lot of things and the ones that did change went down,” Selectman Jay Hopkins said while they were discussing amendments. “So that’s a step in the right direction.”

The board of selectmen will not meet next week do to scheduling conflicts for its members. The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 2.
