Lawmakers back beliefs with action

To the editor:

Climate change isn’t happening 100 years from now. It’s happening now. Here in New Hampshire we’re seeing increased flooding along the seacoast due to sea level rise. We’re also experiencing a decrease in maple syrup production due to changing weather patterns. Two of our largest industries, maple syrup and fishing, are under threat due to climate change.

That’s why Representatives Chris Pappas and Annie Kuster stepped up and voted in favor of H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act, which will ensure America honors its commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement. The resolution passed the U.S. House of Representatives on May 2 with a vote of 231 to 190. The Climate Action Now Act builds on the actions of more than 2,000 businesses and investors, over 280 cities and counties and 23 states which have already pledged to meet America’s commitment under the Paris Climate Agreement. By supporting this bill, lawmakers are showing that they recognize America’s role as a global leader and are backing up that belief with real action.

So thank you to Representatives Chris Pappas and Annie Kuster for voting for H.R. 9 and showing communities across the country that federal leaders are looking for ways to address climate change and protect our health and economies from the worst consequences of climate change.
