Letter: Vote yes on Dublin withdrawal

Dublin voters should vote yes on school ballot article No. 7 to get the Conval School Board off our backs in deciding our children’s education. It is hard to watch and experience the paralysis of imagination and lack of leadership on the Conval School Board.

The same people who hired the Prismatic consultant for $180,000 to lead us down the road to nowhere are now telling us that Dublin can’t stand on their own as a separate school district. What’s wrong with this picture? Their groupthink mentality must be replaced with informed independent local board members.

The Articles of Agreement forged in 1967 no longer permit the best education for our students, and the Conval School Board refuses to put through constructive changes to these articles. Instead the board put forth a warrant article to close four elementary schools including Dublin, an article that failed miserably at the polls.

Dublin voters, a yes vote means you get control of Dublin dollars allocated to the education of our children. Currently, the Conval School Board exercises control over your tax dollars. This board imposes an unfair formula per the 1967 Articles of Agreement and takes an inordinate share of our $37,500-per-student per-year contribution to distribute to others in the district. Keep Dublin dollars in Dublin and let a locally elected school board determine the appropriate amount and allocation.

The Dublin School Board plans to contract with ConVal for education of middle- and high-school students but once we are independent, we have the flexibility and the option to negotiate a contract with any school district to provide the best education for our children.

Take control for a better education and future for Dublin children. Vote yes on school ballot No. 7.
