To the editor:

The Peterborough Academy completed construction of this beloved building on August 21st 1837. We all know it as the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) Hall. One could imagine that 181 years ago this week the carpenters were finalizing the tasks laid out on their punch list much like the gang at Post and Beam Brewing have been doing in preparation for the grand opening on July 28.

With beer names honoring Our Town’s history and punk rock references, this young couple has pulled off something special.

Re-purposing floor boards and structural timbers into the bar, tables and decor, they even salvaged granite slabs from a former stone wall on the property for use as benches out on the river side patio. All while gladly adhering to a preservation easement on the building’s exterior appearance.

Kudos to Erika and Jeff.

Welcome to Grove Street.

Duffy would approve.
