ConVal, Conant, Mascenic run at Jamie Martin Invitational

The ConVal girls’ cross-country team placed three in the top 10 as they won the Jamie Martin Invitational Tuesday for the third straight year. The 17-team meet, which also included Conant and Mascenic among the 336 runners competing, was held at Sanborn in hot and humid weather.

In the girls’ race, the top two spots were held by the usual suspects, Manchester West senior Julia Robitaille (18:31) and Kearsarge junior Mya Dube (18:58). ConVal’s trio of top finishers were seniors Schuyler Michalak (6th, 20:31), Rachel Hurley (8th, 20:44) and Clare Veverka (9th, 20:51). Sarah Newell (14th, 21:42) and Reagan Riffle (22nd, 22:22) rounded up ConVal’s top five.

Mascenic placed eighth in the girls’ race, led by Quinn Aldrich (16th, 21:53) and Sophie Callahan (33rd, 23:50).

Conant took 13th, led by senior Isabella Mormando (37th, 24:08) and Eva Shirey (61st).

On the boys’ side, it was ConVal narrowly edging Mascenic for fourth place, as the Cougars got excellent runs from senior Evan Coyne (16th, 17:58) and junior Harrison Kim (17th, 18:01), plus solid backup from Danny Veverka (28th, 18:52), Haven Deschenes (29th, 18:54), Max Boisvert (38th, 19:37) and Tyler Beard (39th, 19:41).

Mascenic actually had the top two local finishers, with senior Logan Thibault (8th, 17:39) and freshman Connor Traffie (13th, 17:53). The Vikings’ scoring five was finished out by Robert McLain (18th, 18:02), Dakota Somero (37th, 19:26) and Gabe Turner (58th, 20:41).Conant took 11th overall, with senior Chris Taylor up front for the Orioles in 26th (18:48).Matt Bernier (33rd, 19:07) was the only other Oriole in the top 40. 

Campbell senior Jeff Allen won the race in 16:11.
