The ConVal Nordic ski team competed in its first meet of the season on Tuesday at Green Woodlands in Dorchester. The skate race inaugurated a new five-kilometer course and will likely be the toughest venue the high school skiers will ever race on. Designed by famed Nordic ski race course designer John Morton, the homologated route satisfies FIS specifications for elite championship races. Over 125 racers from five high schools attempted the challenge.

Leading the ConVal women were the trio of Eva Calcutt, Cami Hendrixson, and Allison Bull. Other Cougar women finishing the race were Gwen Inglis, Eme Tyler-Wall, Abby Hendrixson, Margot Kratzenberg, and Grace Phillips. On the boys side, Jaimini Viles led the ConVal team, closely followed by the pack of Jackson Burnham, Rowan Inglis, Philip Pope, and Avery Pope. All four skiers finished within 30 seconds of each other. Also skiing for the Cougar boys were Logan Burnham, Lewis Carlton, Riley Momenee, Sam Rousseau, and Dhanesh Airi.

The next Nordic competition for the Cougars is on Jan. 20 at Lebanon. The team will host its home meet on Jan. 25.
