The young gymnasts of Peterborough’s Monadnock Gymnastics Center had a big day at the New Hampshire State Meet in Pelham last weekend.

“The girls went in feeling confident and prepared and came out with many medals around their necks,” said coach Ginger Mermer.

MGC finished the day with four state-best finishes.

Hannah Veverka of Hancock won both Floor and All-Around for her age group at Level 6, and was also second on bars.

Morgan Norby, of Peterborough, won Floor in her age group at Level 6, and was also second on bars and third on beam.

Makenzie Berleth, of Bedford, won beam at Level 7 and was also third on bars.

After a grueling four-and-half-month season, the girls were on top of their game at the state meet, showing growth and improvement throughout. Mermer, too, felt a change.

“When I stepped in to begin coaching... I was doing so purely because they needed a coach,” said Mermer, who owns and runs the gymnastics center. “I didn't realize how much pride I would end up discovering in helping and watching the girls improve and succeed.”

Also of note were Elise Robbins, Level 6, of Peterborough, who placed second on Vault, Beam, Floor and All-Around; Caroline Kilchewski, Level 6, of Stoddard, who placed fifth on beam and fourth All-Around in an extremely tough age group; Caelan Purrington, Level 7, of Richmond was 3rd on vault and beam and 4th all-around. Zadie Marshall, Level 7, of Hancock was 2nd on bars and beam, 3rd on floor and 2nd all-around. Marshall received the 2nd highest all-around score in the entire Level 7 session, earning her a spot on the Super-7 Regional team, to compete in Springfield, Massachusetts on April 7 against qualifiers from 6 other States. Berlath was 10th in the State, also earning a spot to Regionals as an All-Star.
