ConVal wins on Senior Night

Both Ben Kriebel and Jaimini Viles played their best singles matches of the season for undefeated ConVal Tuesday night, coach Michael Young said, as the Cougars improved to 5-0 with a 6-3 win over Hollis-Brookline.

Kriebel won 8-6 at No. 1 and Viles 8-0 at No. 2; Eva Calcutt won 8-2 at No. 5 and Fletcher Maggs won 8-1 at No. 6.

ConVal put the match away with an 8-3 win by No. 1 doubles team Kriebel and Brady Proctor. Maggs teamed with Lucas Gregory for the team’s final win at No. 3 singles, the first win of Gregory’s varsity career.

ConVal wraps up the regular season at Hollis-Brookline on Friday and then awaits the NHIAA Division II team tournament seedings; the tourney is set to open May 25.

Conant wins a pair

The Conant girls reversed their fortunes Monday, beating Lebanon 5-4 after losing to the Raiders by the same score earlier in the year.

The match once again came down to the No. 1 doubles spot, head coach Gloria Morison said, where Margaret Winiecki and Sarah Smith teamed against Keira Hines and Kaeley Skakalski. This time, Winiecki and Smith played smarter together, Morison said, and won their match 8-3.  The team made less errors and was more offensive than the previous match, she said.

Winiecki, Abby Wheeler, and Emily Muilenberg won their singles matches, and Wheeler and Muilenberg teamed to win at No. 2 doubles.

Conant then breezed to a 9-0 win at Stevens Tuesday to improve to 3-1 on the year. The Orioles host Stevens Friday.
