Disc golf tourney, cornhole, horseshoes and more set for Wilton Old Home Days

Wilton’s weeklong Old Home Days celebration starts Saturday and features several sporting events in which the public is invited to participate.

A cornhole tournament is scheduled for Saturday at Whiting Park. Registration is $40 per team; prizes to first, second and third place. Registration starts at 8 a.m.; tournament at 9. Proceeds go to Wilton Junior Athletic Association baseball.

On Sunday, a disc golf tournament is planned on the high school course. Cost is $30 per team; a brief coaches’ meeting is set for 8:40 a.m. followed by the tournament. To register, contact cacarter@innovairre.com. Proceeds go to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

On Thursday, Aug. 22, the 14th annual Wilton Old Home Days Golf Tournament takes place, rain or shine, at Townsend Ridge Golf Club in Townsend, Massachusetts. Registration for the four-man scramble tournament is $100 per person, and includes greens fees, cart, driving range and dinner. Tournament starts at 8 a.m.

Prizes for first, second and third place, longest drive, closest to pin and putting contest.

Three days of horseshoe tournaments are set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 23-25 at Florence Rideout Elementary School. C Division and Women’s tournaments are Friday at 6 p.m.; B Division is Saturday at 6 p.m. and A Division is Sunday at 6 p.m.

To enter the B or C divisions, qualify by throwing a series of shoes on Sunday, Aug. 18 from 1 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m., or Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m.

A Division and Women’s entries need not qualify but must register by Aug. 21.

The double-elimination tournaments feature two-person teams; registration is $30 per team. Cash prizes.

A 5K road race/fun run is planned for Sunday, Aug. 25 at 9:30 a.m. Register at 8:30 a.m. at the starting lines, which are Carnival Hill for the 5K racers and Florence Rideout Elementary School for the 2.2K fun runners/walkers.

Entry fee is a non-perishable food donation.

For spectators, the fourth annual Battle of the Badges police versus fire softball game is planned for Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. at Carnival Hill.
