LETTER: America is a country where people do as they wish

While I support Mr. Azzi's right to express himself in last week's viewpoints piece, I believe including some corroborating facts would have lent credence to the serious allegations he levied against the Christian faith, which he accused of being hell-bent on depriving minorities of their rights, and against the Republican national party, which he claims is desperate to keep white supremacy alive. Statements of this nature are not self-evident, and must contain an underpinning of supporting facts in order to withstand scrutiny.  Mr. Azzi is correct in his assertion that the KKK was a major political force in the 1920s, but neglected to mention that it was primarily made up of democrats. Democrats who opposed desegregation,  anti-lynching laws, and who filibustered to prevent the civil rights act and the civil rights voting act from being passed.

I disagree with his premise that the woke movement is somehow inclusive and affirming. In reality, it is an unruly, undisciplined mob that is ruining people's lives, and don't even represent the greater majority of the gay and lesbian communities opinions as a whole. They cancel those who dare to utter objective truths, such as "men can't have babies," or "there are biological differences between men and women." The woke's tactics most closely resemble those of Chairman Mao's infamous Red Guard during China's Cultural Revolution.  They seek to divide and conquer our society in the manner that Karl Marx recommended in “The Communist Manifesto.”  In closing, Mr. Azzi's statement that minorities only align themselves with the Republican Party because "they are seduced by their proximity to power" reeks of the racism that he professes to abhor

America is a country where people do as they wish, not what they are expected to do because of their race.
