Letter: Consolidation will be best for children

I moved my family to Peterborough over 10 years ago.

When we moved here, our intention was to join the ConVal School District. We didn't care what school or if the town that we moved to had its own school.  We strongly considered moving to Sharon, a town without its own school. Two of our children attended PES, and we were pleased with the experience that they had.  Our youngest had the opportunity to attend Dublin Consolidated School and Antrim Elementary School, which we appreciated greatly.

We didn't stop appreciating PES, nor did we move to Peterborough because of PES. We saw an educational opportunity that was a better fit for our child.  That is what school consolidation is about. It will provide better educational opportunities for all of our students. Also you will have some choice on which opportunity is best for you within the district.

I would like to point out that our property taxes have doubled since we moved in over 10 years ago. At this rate, taxes are becoming unaffordable for many. The move to consolidate won't save us money this year, but I can see the savings over time. I think that this is a financial move that we need to consider and I believe that it is what is best for our children.
