The Peterborough Players’ next “Met: Live in HD” screening will be Bizet’s “Carmen” Saturday, Jan. 27, at 12:55 p.m.

“Carmen” is the story of a woman who craves love but elicits obsession and jealousy in her lust for attention. English director Carrie Cracknell moves the action to modern-day settings. Aigul Akhmetshina, who in 2018 was the youngest artist ever to sing the title role at London’s Royal Opera House, at age 21, makes Met history as the youngest artist to take the role of Carmen.

Tenor Piotr Beczala as plays Carmen’s troubled lover Don José, alongside Grammy-winning soprano Angel Blue as the loyal Micaëla and bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen as Escamillo. Daniele Rustioni conducts Bizet’s score.

The “Live in HD” presentation will be directed by Gary Halvorson and hosted by Grammy Award=winning mezzo-soprano Susan Graham to provide exclusive behind-the-scenes access and interviews with the cast and creative team during intermission.
