Letter: Praise for Viva Bach

My interest in classical music began as a child, led by my dad playing 78s on a wind-up gramophone. Later, my life shaped into a career that did not include music; however, it was included as a leader in brain function and source of amazing and wonderful friends.

With a brain full of musical memories, concerts have been precious and welcoming, but not as leading as the 78 records from childhood. Recently, this has changed so that concerts are now totally compelling.  Change followed attendance at the three Viva Bach concerts held at the Peterborough Town Hall. Concert No. 1 included a performance of Bach's “Brandenburg Variations” on piano, No. 2 included music by voice accompanied by members of the orchestra, and No. 3 included a more-choral program with superb orchestral accompaniment.

Each piece was immaculate in performance, matching the room's solid reverberation patterns.  For me, Viva Bach performances will remain compelling and never missed. Hopefully the system will expand to include other composers, too. The Viva Bach administration is clearly as world-class as the musicians it selects. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Viva Bach.
