On Saturday, Feb. 18, at 10:30 a.m., Monadnock Writers’ Group hosts writer Darcey Gohring at its monthly speaker series. ‘

The free event, held at Peterborough Town Library, 2 Concord St., is intended to be of interest to both readers and writers of memoir and anyone who has considered sharing their personal narrative. Gohring leads workshops helping others reveal their often long-hidden stories. In a recent podcast with “Understood,” a nonprofit supporting people with learning differences, she said, “Every single person has their own challenges,” and “there is something healing about writing your story.”

Gohring has shared her experience with breast cancer, revealed the impacts of dyslexia on her education and career and written about how menopause and aging affect her as a woman.

Gohring is the host of the “Moms Don’t Have Time to Write” online writing community and a writing instructor at The Writers Circle. She specializes in human interest stories and personal narrative. Her writing has appeared in Newsweek, HuffPost, Business Insider, Scary Mommy and New Jersey Monthly, among others. Gohring’s essay “Looking Back at Cancer and Coronavirus” was nominated for a Zibby Award. She contributed to the anthology, “Corona City: Voices From an Epicenter,” and recently completed her debut novel, “The Road Home.”

Since 1984, the Monadnock Writers’ Group has supported local writers of all genres and levels of achievement. Monthly meetings, held on the third Saturday of each month, bring a variety of writers to the Monadnock region to offer their experiences. In addition, MWG publishes periodic anthologies and “Smoky Quartz,” a semiannual online journal of literature and art. Throughout the year, MWG hosts public readings and informal gatherings to raise awareness of the literary talent in the Monadnock region. Learn more at monadnockwriters.org and smokyquartz.org.
