The Jaffrey Civic Center, 40 Main St. in Jaffrey, kicks off its 2024 art season with Greg Hunsaker’s show “Family Time” as its first display case show of the year.

There will be a reception Saturday, March 9, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and the exhibit will run in the display cases through April 6. Regular hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Hunsaker started his artistic career in a less-than-conventional way. Growing up, he had dyslexia, which led to troubles in school. However, because of this hardship with standardized learning, he was propelled into the arts, especially by an art teacher in his middle school who pushed him to learn how to draw and how to control and hold a pencil. He took photographs to experiment with, which he would then sketch from, which would inspire his paintings.

Hunsaker was born and raised in Salt Lake, Nev., and moved to the Monadnock region six years ago. Most of the photos are from that area because that is where he and his wife lived while raising their four children. This show will depict his “Family Time’ as he traveled west to east across the United States, showing areas that are rare to have access to now or are inaccessible now to the public. This parallels with how rare and precious he sees his time with his family.
