Letter: Kennedy’s candidacy is troubling

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s decision to run for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination has been widely criticized due to his history of spreading dangerous misinformation about vaccines and conspiracy theories. Kennedy's demonization of Dr. Anthony Fauci and the spread of false claims about the Holocaust are particularly concerning and demonstrate his lack of decency and respect for factual accuracy.

Kennedy has also been associated with those who claim the 2020 election was stolen and who downplay the severity of the Jan. 6 insurrection, raising serious doubts about his fitness to hold public office. It is clear that Kennedy's campaign is built on his family name rather than his own qualifications or platform, and his failure to address his anti-vaccine beliefs in his campaign announcement only underscores his lack of credibility.

The fact that his cousin Joe Kennedy III lost his 2020 U.S. Senate campaign suggests that the Kennedy family mystique no longer carries as much weight in elections, and it is concerning that Kennedy is seeking to exploit that legacy for his own gain. Overall, Kennedy's candidacy is deeply troubling and should be rejected by the Democratic Party and voters alike.
