On Saturday, March 16, at 9:45 a.m., Monadnock Writers’ Group features editor John Knight at its monthly Speaker Series.

The free event at Peterborough Town Library, 2 Concord St., is an opportunity to hear about the world of editing and how to make the editor-writer partnership work.

Knight, a native of Greenfield who now lives in Harrisville, is an independent editor who works with publishers, agents and authors across the country. He stated, “Drawing upon many years as a writer and editor, I will describe the different kinds of editors and how they work with authors in various stages of writing, and discuss how to make the most of a writing collaboration.”

Knight also will facilitate a conversation about good revision strategy.

Previously, Knight was an editor for publishers Farrar, Straus and Giroux, New Direction and McSweeney’s. Knight has worked on bestselling and award-winning novels, essay collections, biographies, memoirs, translations and nonfiction. His own writing has appeared in The New York Times Review of Books, The Paris Review, Nautilus, Rumpus and elsewhere. Knight has a doctorate in comparative literature from CUNY, and curated the Book Nook at Harrisville General Store.

Since 1984, the Monadnock Writers’ Group (MWG) has supported local writers of all genres and levels of achievement. Monthly meetings, held on the third Saturday of each month, bring a variety of writers to the Monadnock Region to offer their experiences. In addition, MWG publishes periodic anthologies and “Smoky Quartz,” a semiannual online journal of literature and art. Throughout the year, MWG hosts contests, public readings and informal gatherings to raise awareness of the literary talent in the Monadnock region.
