Letter: Experience matters

Re-elect Tyler Ward for Peterborough Select Board. I served with him for four years. I saw first-hand his intelligence, levelheaded approach to issues, problem-solving ability and dedication to this town. He has a positive vision for Peterborough and the skills to deliver it.

In addition, he has the experience necessary to oversee upcoming major town projects from conception to completion. The following are just a few examples of the accomplishments made during his nine years on the Select Board and five years as its chair:

-- Completed the replacement of the Main Street Bridge, funded 80 percent with federal and 20 percent town taxpayer dollars, and the Route 202 granite retaining wall and partial Transcript Dam repair, 100 percent offset by federal and state funds.

-- Utilized an unprecedented 65  percent private and 35 percent public monies funding model to renovate the library.

-- Partnered with Jaffrey on a new water source at the Cold Stone Spring well site.

-- Established the Roadway System Upgrades Capital Reserve Fund, as well as the Transportation Improvement Capital Reserve Fund (for bicycles and pedestrian infrastructure).

-- Constructed the 60-space Riverwalk parking lot with EV chargers and pedestrian bridge to Depot Square.

-- Partnered with Consolidated Communications to complete fiber internet access throughout town, at no cost to the taxpayers.

Given the challenges we face as a town, Peterborough needs Select Board members who are experienced with the town’s finances, policies, procedures and protocols. Looking toward to the future, we have a new fire/rescue facility To consider. We need Ward and his continued vigilance and control of the tax rate. I feel confident that under his leadership, our tax dollars will be spent in a prudent and conscientious manner. Please join me in voting for him May 9.
