It was just over a year ago that artist Sue Ann Hum and her husband, Rick, became residents of Hancock.

Very active in their former Colorado arts community, Hum is having her first New England solo show at the Hancock Town Library, 25 Main St., Feb. 24 to March 27. An opening reception will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, from 1 to 4 p.m., with an artist talk at 2 p.m. 

Hum’s exhibit, titled “Said I Am A Painter,” explores her body of work spanning the past 10 years. A multi- and mixed-media artist, Hum will exhibit a variety of artwork, including graphite, charcoal, oils, watercolors and acrylics. Her subjects include portraits, landscapes, interiors, still life, sketches, Africa, France and people. 

“She Said” offers a glimpse into the feminine experience. According to Hum, the faces and quotes of the women in this series “say what all women are thinking.” The series is featured on cards and calendars, which will be sold at the reception and can also be purchased by contacting Hum through her website, sueannhum.com. 

A lifelong creative, Hum spent decades in theater and theme park entertainment before focusing on fine art about 20 years ago. She hosted annual trips to France for artists and art enthusiasts with her side business, My Art Trip, from 2013 to 2019. Paused during the pandemic, the trips have not yet resumed. 

Hum will be teaching introductory classes at the library from 10 to noon on Fridays in March. There is a $15 fee for each class, materials provided. Class schedule is as follows:

■ March 1: “Let’s Draw!” (specifically for people who say they can’t draw a straight line).  

■ March 8: “Let’s Wet It!” (an introduction to watercolor).

■ March 15: “Let’s Draw Eyes!” (pencil and charcoal on paper).

■ March 22: “Let’s Artfully Transform a Library Book!” (a mixed-media project).
