Reading from ‘Smoky Quartz’ is Feb. 4

The editors of Smoky Quartz, a journal of literature and art, are hosting an online reading of poetry and prose from the fall 2023 issue Sunday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. 

The public is invited to attend this free online event. Those interested should email mwgsmokyquartz@gmail.com for the link.

According to editor Deni Dickler, “Contributors sharing their poetry and prose from the latest issue of ‘Smoky Quartz’ have ties to New Hampshire and many live and create their works here in the Monadnock region. We are fortunate to have so much creative talent in our region.”

Artwork from the fall 2023 issue will also be featured.

Some of the Monadnock-area writers reading at the event include Bill Chretien, Mame Ekblom Cudd and Denise Ginzler. They will be joined by L. Shapley Bassen, Hunter Hague, Lucia Owen and Kelley White. Their poetry and prose can be read in advance by visiting the “Smoky Quartz” website, smokyquartz.org.

“Smoky Quartz” is open for submissions to the spring 2024 issue until March 15. The editorial team for this issue includes Deborah Murphy, Dickler,and Fred Gerhard. Each of the editors is a published writer.

A second online reading is planned for March 3 at 2 p.m. The selections featured at the March event will be from the “Smoky Quartz” 10th anniversary anthology.

“Smoky Quartz,” founded in 2012, is published by the Monadnock Writers’ Group. The journal is named after New Hampshire’s state gem. It promotes writers and artists with ties to the Granite State. Each issue of the journal includes poetry, prose and a selection of art and photography.
