On Friday, April 5, the Jaffrey Civic Center will present the seventh speaker in this season’s “Stories to Share” series.

Naturalist and writer Susie Spikol will speak on the subject of “Everyday Wild: How Nature Connects Us.” The program will begin at 5 p.m. and will be followed by a reception.

For more than 30 years, Spikol has been helping people of all ages find ways to notice and connect with the wild creatures of the everyday world. Over the course of her career as a naturalist, she has taught thousands of children, adults and teachers and has given hundreds of public talks at nature centers, schools, colleges, universities, libraries and conferences. In 2012, the New Hampshire Environmental Educators recognized Spikol by presenting her with its Environmental Educator Award.

When not catching frogs with preschoolers, tracking bobcats with middle-schoolers or hawk-watching with her three children, Spikol turns to writing. Her articles have regularly appeared in Northern Woodlands magazine, and several of her essays have been featured in environmental educator and author David Sobel’s books. Her essays also appear in Taproot Magazine and the Center for Humans and Nature magazine, Minding Nature.

Jeff Crocker will serve as the moderator for this program, which is free. Donations are appreciated to help support this event and others like it at the Jaffrey Civic Center. The program will be available as an in-person event at the Jaffrey Civic Center as well as via YouTube live.
