ConVal skiers take two top-fives at states; Rousseau qualifies for Meet of Champions

The ConVal boys’ Alpine skiing team placed third in the slalom and fourth in the giant slalom Thursday in the Division II giant slalom state championship at Cranmore Mountain Resort in North Conway.

Garret Rousseau led the way for ConVal in the slalom, finishing sixth with a combined time of 1 minute, 13.23 seconds over two runs to earn a berth in the Meet of Champions Feb. 22 at Mittersill Ski Area at Cannon Mountain in Franconia.

Ben Fraley was 18th in 1:16.57, followed by Cole Dexter 21st in 1:24.46 and Logan Montano 36th in 1:40.76 to complete the scoring for ConVal.

Jake Alonso was 39th in 1:42.87, and Gavin Niemla did not finish his second run.

Rousseau’s combined 1:06.21 in the giant slalom was good for 20th overall, with Fraley 23rd in 1:07.3, Dexter 28th in 1:10.48 and Montano 31st in 1:13.07 to score points for ConVal. 

Niemla was 41st with a time of  1:17.75, and Harlan Bielagus was 50th with a time of 1:23.72.
