The Conant girls’ tennis team picked up its first win of the season against three losses Wednesday, beating Trinity 6-3.

In singles, Jess Yap, Caroline Rockhill, Riley Goddard and Emily Lewis all won their matches, while Nobley Walker and Grace Lewis lost. As was the case the previous day against Kearsarge, Grace Lewis’ loss was by a 9-7 margin.

In doubles, the second doubles team of Grace Lewis and Rockhill and the third team of Goddard and Lewis won, playing mostly newer tennis players. 

The Orioles were scheduled to play Sanborn Friday.

SOFTBALLConVal scores big win 

On a rainy, wet day Thursday, the ConVal softball team traveled to Plymouth and improved to 4-0 on the season with a 21-1 victory. 

Every starter scored at least once for the Cougars. Leading the way was Ivy Armstrong-McEvoy, who got the start in right field. She went 2-3 with four runs, two singles, two walks and three RBI.

Avery Moore had drove in five runs with doubles and a single, and Brynn Frosch scored three runs and had two RBI on a single and a long triple. Olivia Riley had two singles, drove in three runs and scored twice, and Opale Barrick scored three runs and had two RBI.

Sydney Borges pitched the five-inning game, allowing two hits and seven walks while recording 13 strikeouts with no earned runs. 

The Cougars will host Pelham on Wednesday, April 24, at 4 p.m.

TRACK AND FIELDThree ConVal athletes make finals

Three ConVal competitors reached the finals of their events Saturday during a meet at Nashua North High School that included some of the state’s best teams from Division I, as well as out-of-state teams,

Senior Tasha MacNeil won the girls’ javelin throw with a distance of 107-feet, 5-inches, nearly five feet farther than the second-place throw. Junior Kendrick Edwards finished second in the boys’ long jump with a leap of 19-feet, 8-inches, and finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 23.52 seconds. Freshman Morly Johnson threw the discus 107-feet, 10½-inches, which earned him a seventh-place finish. Edwards’ and Johnson’s results were the top performances from Division II competitors in their events.

Simard finishes fifth at festival

ConVal High School junior William Simard finished fifth in the 5K at the sixth annual Connecticut Distance Festival at Hall High School in West Hartford, Conn., Friday.

Simard’s time was 15 minutes, 15 seconds, and he was the only underclassmen in the top 10.
