On Thursday, April 11, at 6 p.m. Richard "Dobbs" Hartshorne will speak at the Mariposa Museum & World Culture Center at 26 Main St. in Peterborough about his experiences playing the music of Johann Sebastian Bach for incarcerated men, women and children, as well as other disenfranchised and marginalized people around the world over the past 30 years. He plans to return to Palestine this spring.

Hartshorne founded Bach with Verse in 2004, a nonprofit organization that "brings music and laughter to those who need it most" around the world. A double bassist, he has brought live concerts to schools, prisons, rehab centers and refugee camps in Afghanistan, Bolivia, Iraq, Palestine, Uganda and the United States. He has also played for death row inmates and shared Bach with AIDS orphans in South Africa, villagers in Bolivia, centers for abused women and homes for sight-impaired children in Iraq.  His work "focuses on music's capacity to dramatically change moods and behavior. “

Tickets are $15 for the in-person event or $10 for attending via Zoom. Tickets for both may be purchased on the Mariposa website, mariposamuseum.org, or at the door.
