HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Tasha MacNeil leads the way for ConVal at Pelham Invita

The ConVal boys’ and girls’ track and field teams opened their seasons at the Pelham Invitational, a meet that included teams from NHIAA’s Division I and Division II, Saturday.

The boys finished in 10th place out of 20 teams, with 22 points. The girls finished 11th of 17 teams, with 21 points.

Senior Tasha MacNeil accounted for 20 of the girls’ team’s 21 points, winning the javelin throw (98-feet, 7-inches for 10 points), placing second in the 100-meter dash (13.13 seconds for eight points) and placing fifth in the shot put (28-feet 5-inches for two points). Senior Aida Davis’s sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:05.43) earned one point.

Junior Kendrick Edwards led the boys team with eight points, courtesy of his second-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.6 seconds). Juniors Roman Cadwallader and Maxx Telofski each earned four points in throwing events, with Cadwallader placing fourth in the shot put (40 feet) and Telofski placing fourth in the discus (115-feet, 3-inches).

Freshman Morly Johnson scored in two events, collecting two points for his fifth-place finish in the shot put (39-feet, 4-inches) and one point for his sixth-place finish in the discus (111-feet, 8-inches). Junior William Simard earned two points with his fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:06.93), and senior Anthony Cadwallader finished sixth in the 100-meter dash (12.12 seconds) to score one point.

SOFTBALLConVal beats John Stark in opener

The ConVal Cougars softball team beat the Generals of John Stark 19-7 in their season opener Wednesday night on the turf and under the lights at Franklin Pierce.

The Cougars held the Generals in the first inning and scored five runs to jump out into the lead after a series of walks. The Generals caught up and scored four in the second, but the Cougars answered with six more to stretch the lead to 11-4. 

The Cougars added eight runs in the fourth inning. Olivia Riley led off the inning with a triple, followed by Hannah Beisang with a double, scoring Riley. Opale Barrick hit a double to drive in Beisang. Barrick and Ivy Armstrong-McEvoy scored on a Brynn Frosch double, and Mae Hagelberger hit a single to score Frosch. Beisang had seven RBI on the night.

On the mound was freshman hurler Sydney Borges, pitching to junior captain Avery Moore. She faced 24 batters in five innings allowing seven runs on two hits, three errors and three walks. She struck out 14 and allowed only two earned runs. 

ConVal’s game at Sanborn Friday was postponed, and the Cougars were scheduled to travel to Hanover Monday.

 

GIRLS’ TENNISRain halts Conant match

Conant started its match against Monadnock Wednesday, taking a 2-1 lead, but the match was suspended due to rain until the teams meet again May 6.

Monadnock only has five players, so they will be defaulting sixth singles and third double
