Jaffrey Civic Center, 40 Main St., will host Jim Murphy's latest exhibition, "The Life That Surrounds Us,"  in the Cunningham Gallery from  Aug. 17 to Sept. 28.

Murphy brings forth a series of impressionistic works showcasing his connection to the trees, forests and skies of the Monadnock area. Unlike traditional landscape painting, Murphy uses trees as a medium for personal expression, focusing on the movement of trees and the  interplay of light within forested vistas.

The center will host an artist reception Friday, Aug. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m.
