On June 14, American Legion Post 5 held a flag-retirement ceremony in downtown Peterborough.
The U.S. electrical grid is under stress as loads increase while infrastructure upgrades lag. The situation is bound to become worse because demand for electricity is expected to grow significantly, due in part to electrification and manufacturing. However, most of the demand growth will come from new data centers that will support artificial intelligence applications and, to a lesser degree, cryptocurrency mining.
The Eastern Monadnock Housing Security Coalition in Peterborough has been awarded $150,000 in tax credits from the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority to support its efforts to address housing instability in the region.

Summer is just about upon us, and here comes the sun! After a spring soaked in rain, my garden and new lawn are practically singing for sunshine. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful; the rain has been a gift, coaxing vibrant life from the soil. But as with most things, it’s a double-edged sword. When we have one, we long for the other.

A new three-tier rate system for Peterborough residents and businesses who use public water and sewers was approved by the Select Board Tuesday to encourage water conservation and shift some of the financial burden for water to bigger users in town.

A Peterborough resident on probation has been sentenced to up to five years in prison for being in possession of firearms and drugs. In Hillsborough County Superior Court North, Branden French pleaded guilty to 12 counts of Felon in Possession of a Deadly Weapon, and four counts of Possession of a Controlled Drug, also a felony.

At its graduation ceremony next week, the ConVal School District will recognize a member of the senior class who died in a car accident in September, stepping back from a previous policy of not doing so and acceding to the wishes of the student’s family and at least 1,400 other people in the community.
