Eva Hodgson’s college basketball career came to an end Monday afternoon, as the Rindge native’s No. 6 North Carolina Tar Heels were eliminated by No. 3 Ohio State on a last-second game-winner by Jacy Sheldon in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Hodgson, a redshirt senior, made both of her 3-point attempts for six points before leaving the game following a collision with about eight minutes to go.

Hodgson was Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year and CAA First-Team All-Conference in her first two years at William & Mary before opting out of the COVID season and transferring to UNC, where she teamed with fellow New Hampshire native and head coach Courtney Banghart.

The Heels advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2022 before losing to eventual champion South Carolina.

RUNNINGMascenic coach running one mile per hour

Mascenic athletic director and track coach Mike Smith is running a “mile-an hour” fundraiser this Friday. Smith plans to run one mile each hour from 10 a.m. Friday morning to 10 a.m. Saturday, starting in New Ipswich and then heading over to Nelson to run the Monadnock Regional Milers’ Chiller course.

The feat serves as a fundraiser, as the Mascenic Athletic Booster Club has organized a nomination system in which people pay $10 to nominate friends to run a mile with Smith; those nominated can run the mile or donate to the booster club instead.

For more information, visit the Mascenic Athletic Boosters on Facebook.
