A former bus driver for the company that serves the ConVal School District, along with his wife, who were arrested March 20 for allegedly producing child sexual abuse material were indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday.

According to a statement from U.S. Attorney Jane Young’s office, the indictment states that on or about Jan. 29, Paul Baird, 43, of Keene and Krystal Baird, 38, of Keene “knowingly attempted to and knowingly employed, used, persuaded, induced, enticed and coerced a minor female under the age of 12 years to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of such conduct, using materials that had been mailed, shipped and transported in and affecting interstate and foreign commerce.”

Before his arrest, Paul Baird was a bus driver by the Student Transportation of America, which serves the ConVal School District. At the time, STA spokesperson Jen Holzapfel stated that Paul Baird had passed a background check before starting with the company Sept. 15, 2023, and was terminated immediately after being arrested.

ConVal Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders stated that Paul Baird was never a ConVal employee, and that the district would immediately begin a review of its transportation safety protocols and a review with STA of its policies and practices.
