The Wilton-Lyndeborough Cooperative School Board has announced Bryan Lane as the next superintendent of schools. His term as the district’s superintendent will begin on July 1.

Lane is currently the Superintendent of Schools for the Hudson School District. Previously he served as principal of Alvirne High School for 14 years.  He holds a master’s of education degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership from UNH.

Lane has signed a two year contract with the district, according to School Board Chair Geoff Brock. “Though we are hopeful that he’s going to spend a good long time with us,” added Brock.

Lane’s starting salary will be $111,000 annually.

During a candidate meet and greet last month, Lane explained that he was looking to move into a smaller district than Hudson, which has about 3,700 students, in order to build closer relationships with students and staff.

Lane said that in his conversations with the School Board, it was clear that transparency was a priority, and that was a point he agreed with. “The public knowing where their money is going is the only way to make it work,” said Lane, while discussing his seventeen years of experience in building budgets.

Brock said that the board unanimously approved Lane, saying, “We’re very excited to have him working for us. He seemed to be very community oriented with a great deal of experience, and was very interested in being part of the team and continuing the work that’s already been done.”

With facility issues having recently been resolved with the renovation and addition to the district’s elementary schools, the focus going forward for the district will be curriculum development and student achievement. Lane said his first priority will be to review the current curriculum and district resources to see what can be built from what the district already has in place, while also identifying gaps that need to be filled.

Lane lives in Derry, and said it is his intent to retain his residence there and commute to Wilton-Lyndeborough.

Brock thanked current Superintendent Christine Tyrie for her service to the district over the last three years, and expressed regret that Tyrie’s desire to move to a part-time position ended her position with the district, but said that the district was looking forward to Lane taking the helm in her place.
