A car in the parking lot at White Mountain Chiropractic and Rehabilitation in Rindge caught fire Tuesday afternoon.

Rindge Firefighter Casey Burrage said the department was dispatched to the business, located at the corner of Route 119 and Cathedral Road in Rindge, for a report of a car fire that had potentially spread to the building. Burrage called for a first alarm due to the possible threat to the building.

When crews arrived, the 2008 Honda CRV’s engine compartment was on fire, and the fire was just starting to spread to the car’s passenger compartment.

The vehicle had been parked in the lot while its owner, Vivian Forsberg, 79, of Baldwinville, Massachusetts, was inside a business at an appointment, Burrage said, and there was no one in the vehicle. The fire department does not know the cause of the fire.

“It was reported as being fine when she went in for her appointment, and she didn’t know anything was wrong until there was a knock on the door with someone saying a car in the lot was on fire,” Burrage said. “And it was hers.”

The heat from the fire melted some of the vinyl siding on the building and disrupted some of the glass on the windows, but the damage was limited to the exterior, Burrage said.

Firefighters were able to put out the flames on the car within about 10 minutes, but stayed on scene for an hour checking to ensure the building hadn’t been damaged by the fire and waiting for the vehicle to be towed.

There were no vehicles parked next to the Honda, or they had been moved before the fire crews arrived, and there was no damage to other cars in the lot, Burrage said. No one was injured, he said.
