ConVal senior track and cross-country star Evan Coyne will run for Division I Bryant University next year.

“It’s just awesome,” said Coyne on Tuesday, after signing his national letter of intent surrounded by family, friends and teammates.

Coyne said he contacted Bryant on a whim and then spent a day on campus with the Bulldogs team.

“Everyone seemed really involved,” Coyne said. “The team spirit seemed really high, everyone was really nice to each other, supportive. You could tell that they were also really smart and academically dedicated as well, which is something I was looking for.”

Coyne had a triumphant senior cross-country season this fall for ConVal. After falling just short of the 2017 New England Championships a year ago, Coyne took 14th in Division II, 24th in the state and 117th in New England.

Coyne said he applied undecided but will likely take advantage of Bryant’s renowned business wing.

“Bryant's business program is really, really good, so I’m excited to try some things out,” Coyne said. “Academics definitely come first. I don’t know that I’ll be able to run my whole life and get money from it, obviously, so I’ve got to focus on academics, because it’s more important for my future after college – but I’m super excited to run there.”
