ConVal Community Dollars for Scholars organization has awarded $91,000 in college scholarships for nine hard-working students.

On Wednesday, June 7, students and community members gathered at ConVal to honor students who have been recognized for their resilience and academic achievements. Since 2007, the ConVal Community Scholarship Foundation has given more than $500,000 in tuition assistance to nearly 200 ConVal graduates interested in pursuing a secondary education in any college or technical school in the United States.

This year’s awards night featured several reoccurring scholarships and one new memorial scholarship ranging from $5,000-$16,000.

The recipient of the $16,000 John Vance Scholarship is Jada Stevens. Stevens will be attending Keene State to study sports management and coaching. Madison Rogers won the $10,000 Martha Scott Memorial Scholarship, and she will use it to attend Johnson and Wales to study culinary arts.

The recipient of the $10,000 Peterborough Garden Club Scholarship is Liam O’Mahoney. O’Mahoney will be attending UMaine Orono to study marine engineering. Danielle Luke was awarded the the $10,000 Ken Christian Memorial Scholarship. Luke will be attending the University of New Hampshire to study elementary education.

In addition, three students were awarded the Mary Lou O’Neil Memorial Scholarship, which was first introduced last year. The recipient of the first $5,000 grant is Addison Lustenberger, who will study real estate at the New Hampshire Technical Institute. The recipient of the second $5,000 is Leigha Psiras, also attending the New Hampshire Technical Institute to study electrical engineering. The final recipient is Emily Martins, who will study foreign languages at Volunteer State Community College in Tennessee.

The PJ O’Rouke Memorial Scholarship was debuted this year. P.J. O'Rourke, a widely-published American author and political satirist, resided in the Monadnock region until his death in 2022.

According to the ConVal Community Dollars for Scholars organization, the P..J O’Rouke scholarship was founded to give students who are experiencing hardships an opportunity to go to college just like O’Rouke, who went on to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree, thanks to the generosity of scholarship donors.

Olivia Martino received the first $15,000 P.J. O’Rourke Memorial Scholarship. Martino will study nursing at Keene State. Callie Boisvert also received the scholarship and will attend St. Michael’s College to study psychology.

Chris Heider, president of the ConVal Community Dollars for Scholars program, said he is grateful for all the support in the community, and congratulated the recipients.
