The Mascenic girls’ volleyball team’s storybook season continues, as the Vikings will play for a state championship Friday after beating Campbell 3-0 in the semifinals Wednesday night.

“It was another great team win,” said head coach Karen Gibson, finals-bound in her first season at the helm. “We were solid enough on fundamentals that we forced them to make mistakes.”

The No. 6 Vikings (14-5) beat No. 7 Campbell (13-6) twice in the regular season and again at Plymouth State in the semis Wednesday without losing a single set.

Annika Martel played great all-around, Gibson said; Sam Hughson was scrappy on defense at the net, and Kylie Millea put the game away with a kill just as she did in the quarterfinal game at Epping last week.

The Vikings play undefeated No. 1 Inter-Lakes (18-0) Friday at 7 p.m. at Plymouth State. Inter-Lakes beat Mascenic 3-1 in their lone regular-season matchup.

Mascenic was a perennial contender in the 1980s and ‘90s, making 11 championship appearances and winning five, but hasn’t been to the final since 1997 and hasn’t won a title since 1992.
