The Wilton Recycling Center is holding its annual Household Hazardous Waste Day this Sunday.

The Wilton Recycling Center serves Wilton, Lyndeborough, Temple, Greenville and Mason. All towns can participate in this program.

Household hazardous waste can be brought to the recycling center on Sunday, June 27, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cars must have a recycling center sticker to participate. No stickers will be given out on Sunday.

Household hazardous waste includes products including bug and weed killer, chemistry sets, drain and toilet cleaners, dry cleaning solvents, polish, household cleaners, gun cleaning solvents, oven cleaners, photographic chemicals, spot remover, thermostats or thermometers, fertilizer, lighter fluid, stains and varnishes, thinner or stripper, rubber cement, glues, antifreeze, paint, battery acid, driveway sealer, fuels, gasoline or kerosene, motor oil, rat poison, roofing tar, or pool and hot tub chemicals.

Leave waste in their original containers with tight caps, sort them separately and pack them upright in a sturdy box. Never mix chemicals.

Up to five gallons of waste can be dropped off for free. Additional waste can be dropped off for a cost of an additional $40 per 5 gallons.

Empty containers, ammo, fireworks, explosives, asbestos, batteries, biological waste, commercial or industrial waste, fire extinguishers, flourescent bulbs, PBC balast, prescription medicines, sharps or syringes, propane tanks, radioactive waste, smoke detectors and asbestos or latex paint are not accepted.

Regular recyclables and trash are not taken Sunday, and must be dropped off during the regular center hours.

When you arrive, follow the arrows to the drop off point. Open your truck, tailgate or hatchback and stay in your car. Items will not be taken from inside your vehicle. A survey is available on the Wilton town website, under the Recycling Center’s Household Hazardous Waste Day announcement, and must be filled out with a list of what you are dropping off.

The Wilton Recycling Center is recommending mask use. Everyone is encouraged to respect each other’s preferences. Masks are available if needed.
